Khaled Nabil Salama
With over two decades of research in low-power sensing circuits and IoT infrastructure, Professor Salama brings deep expertise in designing hardware that knows when to doubt itself—systems that report confidence alongside measurement.
Background & Credentials
Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at KAUST since 2009, where he served as Founding Program Chair (2009–2011). Senior member of IEEE with 450+ peer-reviewed publications and 50+ patents on low-power circuits for intelligent sensors. Recipient of the prestigious Stanford-Berkeley Innovators Challenge Award in Biological Science.
His research focuses on the intersection of hardware design, sensing, and trust—building systems that understand their own limitations and communicate uncertainty alongside measurement. This philosophy forms the foundation of V-SENSE's mission: trusted sensing for a better world.
- PhD in Electrical Engineering — Stanford University (2005)
- MSc in Electrical Engineering — Stanford University (2000)
- BSc in Electronic and Communications Engineering — Cairo University (1997)
- IoT Thrust Leader & Associate Director — KAUST Semiconductor Initiative (2022–2025)
- Associate Dean for Students — KAUST (2020–2023)
- Director — KAUST Sensors Initiative (2017–2022)
- Assistant Professor — Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York (2005–2009)
Vision for V-SENSE
"The next generation of IoT and smart infrastructure doesn't need more sensors. It needs smarter sensors—devices that understand their own limitations and report confidence alongside measurement."
"At V-SENSE, we're building the sensing systems that will power trusted decision-making in healthcare, infrastructure, and beyond. Hardware that knows when to doubt itself. That's where the real innovation lies."
